The day that Hornsby fell!

Well, the Drillers are in the playoffs! We decided to take Jimmy to his first ever baseball game, and what an eventful game it was!

The first three innings were going good (Drillers - 6, Cardinals - 0). But after the third inning, it started to go down hill and the Cardinals started scoring and tied the game. This meant a 10th inning, which I wasn't super excited about because it was getting late, baseball isn't the most exciting sport to watch, and I was sticky and smelly (which I will explain later). In the end, we got to sit through an extra inning just to watch the Drillers loose it by 2.

So, to the sticky and smelly part... Josh was having a beer and a hot dog in the early part of the game, which I think is a very necessary part of the baseball experience, and Hornsby (the Drillers mascot) stood on the drillers dugout and started dancing to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." First, I guess I should explain that our season seats are in the front row behind the dugout... So we had the best seats in the house to watch Hornsby moon walk on the dugout. We were all sitting there laughing and watching when I noticed that Hornsby was getting extremely close to the edge of the dugout. But, I figured he has probably moon walked on the dugout about 5,229 times, so he knows by heart where the edges are. Well, I guess it must take 5,230 times to learn the edges of the dug out, because as I was thinking this thought, Hornsby fell off of the dugout and into Josh and I's laps! Luckily, he only fell on us and not the boys. He played it off really well and so did we. But, remember the beer that I mentioned??? Well, Josh and I were WEARING the beer... The whole glass... And Josh had ordered the dang tall boy... Literally, there was beer dripping off of me. Poor Hornsby felt so bad that he broke character and said "man, I am SO sorry." A Drillers employee rushed over and quickly assured us that we did NOT just hear Hornsby speak. Hornsby limped up the steps and offered us new beer and a clean shirt, which was really nice. But I think Hornsby really was hurt, because he didn't appear the rest of the game.

People around us kept telling us that we played it off really cool, but seriously what else could we have done? Yelled at poor hurt Hornsby and looked like jerks? It was just beer... Totally washable and it made a great ball park story for Jimmy's first trip to the ball park. But, next game, I think I will ask for a lid!

The future of my profession!

I had to spend a little time after hours at my office recently and I was lucky enough to be escorted by my favorite 7 year old. Conner loves spending time at the office with me, which is funny, because I actually don't like spending time at the office at all. But, I guess you see things a little differently when you are 7. But I am pleased to know that I am grooming the future of the CPA profession... :)

With a little luck, he will be ready in time for the 2013 filing season!!

Fun Filled Weekend #1!!

Well, Jimmy survived his first weekend in America! After all of the football on Friday and Saturday, Josh took him hunting on Sunday morning. I think that Jimmy thought the hanging out with the boys part was fun, but the waiting on the birds to fly in was boring... After they finished hunting, they had to clean the birds, which he was not into. He actually only watch the others clean birds and he said he didn't think that he would ever actually clean them himself. His description of them cleaning the birds was pretty funny.

On Sunday afternoon, Jimmy and I headed to Tulsa to go to the mall. Since he was only able to bring a few clothes on the plane, he needed to get a few clothes. Josh thought that shopping was my department, so he and Conner stayed home and did some work on the tractor while Jimmy and I headed to Tulsa. We shopped until we dropped. We clothes shopped, shoe shopped, and cosmetic shopped (the cosmetics were for me). I had a good time!

Jimmy had said when he first arrived that he really liked golf. This was music to Josh's ears. Josh loves to play golf and he and I both have golf clubs, but I rarely have time to golf with him. So Monday morning the boys went golfing. I opted out of the golfing trip to get some things done at home (and to sleep in). The temperature reached over 100 degrees on Monday, but they still have a great time.

Monday evening, we had a cookout at our house with some friends. Derek and Kirsten came and brought Jakob from Germany, who is staying with them this year. There was a lot of people, but we all had a great time. I had went shopping earlier in the day while the boys were golfing and had planned a menu of burgers and hot dogs, salad, coleslaw, chips, apple braid, strawberry shortcake, and Grandma Betty cake (AKA chocolate trifle for those of you who do not have the last name Green). After everyone left, Josh told me that the food was all really good, but we could have used some chips to go with the burgers. It was at this moment that I realized that I forgot to set out the 4 bags of chips that I had bought earlier in the day for the cookout. I HATE when I do things like that. But hopefully no one in attendance missed the chips to much, and if you did, feel free to come back over and pick up a bag. We are well supplied in chips for a while!

I think it was a great first weekend in America for Jimmy. Some at the cook out asked him if he was home sick and he said that he hadn't really had time to be homesick. He also said that he was really enjoying his time here, so I guess so far so good!

Football, football, football!

Well, Jimmy survived his first weekend of American football! He experienced just about every level of football that Oklahoma has to offer. On Friday night, he didn't get to actually play in the high school game, but he wore his jersey and took stats with the other kids that couldn't play. We sat with him while he was taking stats. Josh had to leave for a little bit, so I took it upon myself to explain the game and the rules from beginning to end. I felt this was a completely appropriate job for me since I know so much about the game. I mean, sure I don't use the "official" terms for things, but I totally think that he now fully understands the game. I am sure the Yale coaches will appreciate my efforts when he knows all there is to know about high school football :). Unfortunately, the Bulldogs lost their season opener... Get 'em next time boys!

Jimmy also met Conner on Friday night. Conner went to the game with us, and as it turns out, they hit it off quite nice. I wasn't really surprised, Conner talks a big game, but really he likes everyone and is a pretty likable kid himself. He did make it a point to tell Jimmy that he was sleeping in his room, but Jimmy took it well.

Saturday morning was round 2... Conner and the blue jays had a flag football game in Jennings. There were a few Yale high school kids there, so Jimmy had some people his own age to talk to and hang out with. He seems to be settling in really well. Josh said a girl ran up to Jimmy when they got out of the truck and gave him a hug and grabbed his hand and pulled him off. I am glad he is fitting in so easily, but I have to admit when Josh told me this I had a tiny bit of parental fear run threw me. I guess I was experiencing the fine line between "I am glad he has friends" and "I wish he went to an all boys school." But Josh quickly told me to calm down... After Conners game we ate lunch and then it was time for Round 3...

Oklahoma State had their season opener Saturday night, and what a season opener it was! We knew that the game wouldn't be the greatest of the season, but Josh thought it would be a good time to explain in detail some of the rules of the game. I should have told him that I had already told Jimmy everything there was to know about football, but I didn't want to hurt Josh's feelings since he thinks he is the football expert of our family. So, I graciously gave up my ticket so the boys could go to the game and I went to work. I am sure their evening was way better than mine, but I am glad Jimmy got to experience the wonderfulness that is Oklahoma State University game day. He said it was awesome and OSU rocks and he doesn't know why this state even needs another university. OK, so he didn't say that last part, but he did say that he had an awesome time!

First Football Game!!

Tonight is Jimmy's first football game! He isn't actually going to play, because he wasn't able to practice this week since he just transferred in. But he will get to suit up with the team and participate in the game day activities. He seemed excited when he was talking about it last night. He said that they were going to have a pep rally. He didn't even know what a pep rally was, so Josh gave him a crash course in pep rally tradition. I am really happy and excited for him that he is getting to be included in all of the American/Yale football traditions. I am also very thankful for the kids that are being so nice and welcoming. He told me that there was one boy that had been super nice to him, but Jimmy said it was hard for him to know what the boy was saying because the boy had more of an accent than Josh. :) But he seemed very happy that he was getting to know everyone in the school and everyone was being so nice. It seems like he is really starting to settle in well!

Happy Birthday Melissa!!!

Today is my baby sister Melissa's 25 birthday!! It makes me feel really old! I mean, if she is 25 it means I am getting dangerously close to being an age that I used to consider old! I wanted to post a really embarrassing picture of her, and I even had one in mind, but it is at my moms house. It is from a few Christmas's ago (OK, several Christmas's ago) when Santa left her a new coat and she was "modeling" it... I am sure she would be over joyed for me to show it to everyone. :) Maybe I will find it this weekend and just post it late, but until then here is Conner, Josh, and I wishing Melissa a happy, happy, birthday!!

First Day of School

Yesterday was Jimmy's first day of school. Josh took him to school so he wouldn't have to ride the bus the first day. He said that he was a little nervous about starting at a new school. We met with the counselor on Monday so that he could get his schedule set up and take a tour of the school.

Jimmy has decided to play football and possibly baseball. He went to his first practice yesterday and watched, since he hasn't had a physical yet. When school was over for the day, Jimmy went with Josh to a meeting and then Josh showed him around the fire house. Jimmy even got to sit in the big truck!

Jimmy said that it was a good day. He really enjoyed all of the classes and he said all of the kids was very friendly and helpful. He said that he met a lot of kids, but couldn't remember many names yet.

This weekend Jimmy will get to experience American football on overload. He will be going to the high school football game on Friday night and to OSU's football game on Saturday night. He will also get to spent some time on a tractor and feeding cattle. We also have many more people to introduce him too! It should be a fun filled weekend!
